A-Z - How a Pet Photography Session Works

Upon booking your photo session, we will work and communicate together in order to draft a provisional brief. This is where we discuss any specific details or requirements you may have, and come up with a plan of action for our session. Once this original brief has been agreed upon, we then have a solid base to build on. From here we can make any necessary tweaks before the date of the photo session itself. This ensures the session runs as smoothly as possible and that we can capture all of those special moments.

On the day of our session, I’ll initially spend some time with you and your pet(s); ensuring that they’re at complete ease with me. Being an animal lover myself, I believe in having as limited an impact on them as possible. Once all parties are happy and comfortable to proceed, I’ll then start to introduce some of my camera gear to your pet(s). Their natural intrigue will generally draw them in to investigate anything new or unfamiliar, though every animal will be different and as such, so will the time it takes them to approach. As a result, this element of the session will all be done in THEIR time; to maximise comfort, and minimise the stress to your beloved animal(s).

Continuing on the topic of animal welfare, I prefer to travel to a location familiar to you and your floofy friend(s). This allows for a largely routine day, in comfortable surroundings; enabling a happy and relaxed pet. Another aid in comfort is my use of longer lenses. This means I don’t have to be right up in the face of your animal, and avoids potentially making them anxious.

A typical session can last up to a couple of hours. During this time I will capture hundreds of images, making sure to fulfil our previously agreed on session brief. Once we’ve concluded our session I’ll go away and edit the photos. This process includes carefully editing each individual image, and hand selecting the best photographs to display in your very own online private gallery. This private gallery will be password protected, ensuring you have complete confidentiality and can control who has access to your images.

These sessions are entirely bespoke and can cater towards all kinds of pet photography. Whether it be dog(s), cat(s), equine, or any other animals. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I can provide some clarification.
