A-Z - How a Portrait Photography Session Works

Upon booking your photo session, we will work together in order to draft a provisional brief. This is where we discuss any specific details or requirements you may have, and come up with a plan of action for our session. Once this original brief has been agreed upon, we then have a solid base to build on; from here we can make any necessary tweaks, before the date of the photo session itself. This ensures the session runs as smoothly as possible and that we can capture all of those special moments.

On the day of our session, we’ll meet and initially have a little chat to ease ourselves into the next hour or two. This allows me to introduce myself to all involved and make sure everyone feels comfortable. It also enables us to triple check we are on the same page, regarding the sessions’ plan and objectives. Often being physically at a location can spark a previous idea into life, and ensure we capture all of those beautiful images, at the location special to you.

I strongly believe portrait photography should be laid-back, relaxed and above all natural. I not only work naturally, I also chase natural looking images; for you to treasure. So don’t expect to be striking a pose or faking a smile. That wouldn’t feel right for you, for me, and would in turn have the same unnatural affect on any of the resulting images.

If you’re a part of the majority, who don’t feel as comfortable in front of a camera, I understand. This is a very common occurrence and one in which I hope to nullify, in part or in full. If you’d like to read more about how I approach my portraiture sessions, click here.

A typical session can last up to a couple of hours. During this time I will capture hundreds of images, making sure to fulfil our previously agreed on session brief. Once we’ve concluded our session I’ll go away and edit the photos. This process includes carefully editing each individual image, and hand selecting the best photographs to display in your very own online private gallery. This private gallery will be password protected, ensuring you have complete confidentiality and control over who has access to your images.

These sessions are entirely bespoke and can cater towards all kinds of portrait sessions. Whether it be individual headshots, couples, group and family photography, or anything in between. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I can provide some clarification.
